Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer and occurs when skin cells grow abnormally, often due to excessive exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun. The three main types are basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma, with melanoma being the most serious. Skin cancer can appear as a new growth, a sore that does not heal, or changes in an existing mole. While it can affect anyone, the risk increases with frequent sun exposure and sunburns. Protecting the skin with SPF clothing, shade, and natural sunscreen and recognizing early warning signs can help.
