It’s common to have at least a few things that you wish would have been different during your childhood. Have you ever stopped to think about what beliefs and habits you carried on from your parents that might not be serving you or your children? Moms and dads, just like you, can identify old ideas in their belief systems that no longer serve them, do the emotional healing work and raise a new generation to flourish in healthier ways. Unsolved loss, which means unsolved pain, limits our life, steals us from the opportunity to be an example for our children of how to live life in a full way. It is recommended that you find an action-based, powerful, directed approach to healing from life’s deepest heartbreaks.
Need a Lift?
Have you ever found yourself unable to get out of your chair? Although it looks like a regular recliner, a lift chair is designed with mechanisms that help it to act as a mobility aid. With the touch of a button, a lift chair can help comfortably maneuver you to a standing position with little to no help from others, providing you with increased independence. You can choose from a two position, three position, or infinite position chair, depending on whether you want to recline fully. There are lift chairs available to suit a variety of budgets and mobility needs!
The Do Diet
When we think about eating better, we often think about what we must take out of our diet – usually the things we like most! What if, instead of starting with a mindset of restriction, we start with a mindset of abundance? What if we were to focus on adding foods in, rather than removing them? This is a suggestion I regularly share with my clients and a first step that many find easy to do. Here are the top 10 foods I recommend adding as part of the Do Diet: fruit, green tea, dark chocolate, omega-3 fats, nuts & seeds, mushrooms, plain Greek yogurt, avocado, olives, and sweet potato.

Eat Antioxidant-Rich Fruits
Antioxidants are compounds found in foods that can help prevent cell damage, which is also known as oxidative stress. Chronic oxidative stress has been linked to a higher risk of chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes, cancer, and heart disease. It’s important to include antioxidant-rich fruits and other foods in your diet to help combat oxidative stress in your body. Some examples of fruits high in antioxidants include: blueberries – help with lowering blood pressure and cholesterol, delaying age-related brain conditions; strawberries – help with lowering cholesterol; raspberries – may help reduce cancer risk; and goji berries – may lower heart disease risk.
Ketones for Brain Health
March 14-20 marks Brain Awareness Week in Canada, and an important part of maintaining brain health is ensuring your brain gets the fuel it needs. In the case of brain injuries like concussion, the only gate open for the brain to get fuel is the one that allows ketones in, which are a major brain fuel source. Studies show ketones can increase blood flow up to 39%. Ketones from outside of the body will shift the brain’s reliance from glucose to ketones, improving transport and cellular metabolism. This means your brain is being fed the necessary fuel to begin recovery.

Inhaling vs. Consuming Cannabis
When cannabis is inhaled the effects are felt quickly, peaking within 30 minutes, lasting up to 6 hours. Inhaled cannabis has a different metabolic process than when you ingest it. Ingested cannabis must first travel to your stomach then to your liver before getting into your bloodstream and brain. When eaten, the same amount of cannabis will deliver more potent effects than when inhaled. When you eat or drink cannabis, you will feel its effects within 2 hours, with full effects peaking within 4 hours and lasting up to 24 hours. Edibles have enhanced bioavailability and greater potency in comparison to inhaled cannabis.
Fuel Performance Through Healthy Eating
We’ve all heard the saying we are what we eat, but do you know just how much the food we eat affects how we show up in the world? Our bodies and brains function and feel the best when we are providing them with the proper nutritious fuel. When we are eating healthier and providing our body and brain with the proper fuel we not only perform better at work, but in all aspects of our lives. Here are some easy tips to help support healthier eating habits: incorporate more fruits and veggies into your diet, plan your meals and write a grocery list (and stick to the list!), and prepare some meals ahead of time so you have healthy options available for those times when you don’t feel like cooking.
