Why an Organic Mattress?

Many bed manufacturers add fire-retardant chemicals and dust-mite deterrents that are toxic to humans. There is also the issue of off-gassing of polyurethane memory foam mattresses, which involves the mattress releasing volatile organic compounds into the air, affecting the quality of the air you breathe every night, which may pose health risks. In the past, you didn’t have to bother with organic beds because they were already organic; we, however, have built a society where most beds are not, and thereby pose health risks for ourselves. Up to a third or more of your life could be spent in bed! One of the most important factors in staying healthy is the quality of the environments in which we spend significant amounts of time, and so ensuring that your bed provides deep and restful sleep without detracting from your overall health is of paramount importance.

Need Cosmetic Dentures?

Teeth have three main functions: chewing food, lip support, and speech. The loss of your teeth can have negative effects on your self-confidence and your overall quality of life. Winter is Coming

Staying active during the winter months can be difficult with our harsh Manitoba winters; But it shouldn’t have to be. Whether you’re heading outside, bundled up, or staying in, there are many ways to stay active. Outdoors, you will need to be prepared. Cover any exposed skin to reduce the risk of frostbite, and be sure to wear proper footwear to reduce to risk of slipping or falling on any icy surfaces. Proper footwear should have that extra tread just as a winter tire would, or supplemental attachments on the bottoms of your shoes will help dig into those slippery surfaces. If you’re staying inside, fitness or walking DVDs are helpful and remember to wear the proper footwear indoors too. If you have the internet, YouTube is an excellent free source full of multiple types of exercise led workouts or exercises. Carly Appler, CAT(C) InnovativeMedicalSupplies.com

Do’s and Don’ts of Dating

In today’s distracted world where people are panicked when they don’t have instant access to their electronics, face-to-face meetings can be a foreign concept. When getting to know someone it is important that they feel you are giving them your undivided attention. Cell phones need to be on silent and put away while on a date. Ex’s are not discussed. Communication needs to be real. Texting and emailing are not appropriate ways to get to know someone. Take the time to call them and have a real conversation. Do an activity on your date where you have ample time to get to learn more about the person. Mini golf, bowling, the zoo, or walking through craft shows are some suggestions that allow you to get to know one another without pressure. Lianne Tregobov, CamelotIntroductions.com

Food Cravings and Health

Do you ever find yourself wanting a certain food and you need to have it right this second? This could mean that your hormones might be out of balance and could be related to adrenal function. Finding successful ways to handle stress and adding the proper adrenal support is important. Cravings can also be associated with the menstrual cycle in women. During menstrual cycles, proper nutrition and lifestyle considerations are important to aid in balancing hormones. Cravings can also occur when you’re trying to lose weight. This might happen if you are restricting your diet and not getting the proper nutritional balance. Dr. Ana M. Cvitko, N.D., Healthy by Nature Naturopathic Cinic, DrAnaCvitkoND.com

Developmental Vision Disorders

Developmental vision disorders interfere with the ability to function in our high-tech, educationally driven society by causing difficulty with reading, doing paperwork, paying attention, concentrating, and working on the computer. Sadly, 1 in 4 children have vision problems that interfere with their ability to learn, yet they do not report having visual difficulties. And many adults are amazed to discover how many of their signs and symptoms are actually due to a previously undiagnosed visual disorder. Unlike a regular eye exam, a developmental visual evaluation is required to determine if any learning-related visual dysfunctions are present. Balancing Vata in Autumn

According to Ayurveda, fall is Vata season as it is marked by some of the same qualities that characterize Vata: cold, dry, light, clear, and moving. When too much Vata accumulates in the body and mind, the imbalance may manifest as physical or emotional disorders, including insomnia, dry skin, arthritis, constipation, high blood pressure, anxiety, and depression. Daily Abhyanga, or oil massage, balances Vata. Avoid eating dry, cold, and raw food during this season, as it aggravates Vata. Our body naturally wants to avoid too much activity. Practice gentle yoga and alternate nostril breathing. Purnima Chaudhari, Certified Ayurvedic Practitioner, Reflexologist & Reiki Master, AyuReviveAyurveda.com
