Alzheimer’s Support Groups

Being diagnosed with dementia raises uncertainty, fears and unknowns. The Alzheimer Society is a place to turn for a community of services, support and experts that can help ease some of these concerns. One way to feel connected is through our support groups for both for people living with dementia and for their care partners. It’s a great way to connect, interact with and learn from others in a safe environment. With our wide variety of groups, now offered virtually and in-person, you can share, laugh and help others who are on similar journeys as you. Learn more about our support groups at Alzheimer.mb.ca.

Emergency Lock Box

Have you ever asked yourself, how could I be rescued if my door was locked? Time is of the essence during a fire or medical emergency. Install a Lock Box – a small weather-resistant metal box that securely holds a set of keys. Should an emergency occur while you are unable to open the door or get out of the residence, Brandon Fire & Emergency Services (BFES) can access your property without having to break-in. Contact Brandon Seniors for Seniors Co-op Inc. at 204-571-2050 for more information.
Note: If you are a veteran/spouse residing in Brandon then you may be eligible for subsidized lock box costs under this program – funding is limited. Please contact our office for more information.

Government Grant for Restrictions in Walking

With tax season upon us, it’s important to consider whether you are eligible for the disability credit. If you have had a prolonged disability due to a hip or knee condition or other medical conditions such as copd, diabetes, neuropathy, etc, that cause restrictions in walking or dressing, you may qualify for a $2,500 yearly credit, as well as a $25,000 Lump Sum Refund. Men’s Club

Did you know that Brandon Seniors for Seniors Co-op Inc. has a Men’s Club? Local volunteer men created this club to address a growing need to provide a safe space for men to meet weekly, share ideas, life experiences and provide value to Brandon.
