We are thrilled to share with you how your donations have been put to use this year. We have purchased over $710,000 in equipment, not including the Pumps for Life $900,000 purchase yet to be made. These purchases have been made for all areas of the hospital as well as some programming assistance in the community. Some examples include: Bladder Scanners for the ER and ICU, surgical scrub sinks for the Operating Theatres, washer & dryer for both Centre for Adult Psychiatry and Centre for Geriatric Psychiatry, portable towers and stretchers for the Endoscopy Unit, and thermometers and beds for the NICU. We cannot thank you, our donors, enough for your ongoing support and generosity.

Benefits of Back Braces
If you suffer from back pain caused by structural problems or certain conditions, a back brace may be a helpful option. Back braces can help alleviate back pain by: 1) Immobilizing your back – some injuries and surgeries require your back to be immobilized in order to heal. Using a back brace can limit certain motions for this purpose. 2) Providing postural support – a back brace can alleviate pain by keeping the spine in a normal alignment. 3) Controlling pain – back braces can compress the abdomen, helping to unload the various structures of the spinal column and potentially ease pain symptoms.
Avoid Denture DIY
Trying to adjust or repair your denture yourself can easily cause irreparable and permanent damage and negatively affect how they fit. If you break your denture, if a tooth falls out, if you notice they’re cracked, or if they’re simply uncomfortable and you’re feeling like they need an adjustment, a professional denturist can help. Denturists will ensure that any repairs are completed properly, eliminating any problems that could occur if you try to fix your dentures yourself. Most adjustments can be made while you wait, and today’s modern technology means that many repairs can be completed within an hour.

Getting a Better Night’s Sleep
In a recent survey, 30 percent of older adults reported being dissatisfied with their sleep. If you have trouble sleeping, here are a few tips to get you back on track: 1) Maintain a sleep schedule and go to bed at the same time each night. 2) Don’t use bedtime as worry time – an anxious mind will have trouble falling asleep so try some deep breathing exercises or reading a few pages of a book to help you relax. 3) Consider the benefits of daily exercise. A study from Northwestern University showed that adults aged 55+ who exercised 4 times a week for 30 minutes a day dramatically improved their sleep quality!
