Stay Well with Virtual Appointments
Telehealth virtual-rehabilitation appointments allow you to connect with your physiotherapist in live-format using your computer, tablet, or smartphone. This is a great option when you’re unable to make it to the clinic for a hands-on session. During a telehealth visit, your physiotherapist can still provide many valuable tools, including, but not limited to: assessing and diagnosing your injury, teaching you self-management techniques for how to best manage your ailments, identifying aggravating and easing factors, prescribing and instructing exercise, providing referral for imaging or other healthcare providers when needed, and making equipment recommendations (sport-braces, orthotics, crutches, taping techniques, etc.).
Travelling Boosts Mental Health
In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, travel is not an option, but don’t let that stop you from dreaming big. Travel is beneficial to our mental health, helping to enhance creativity, improve mental stability, provide stress relief, broaden perspective, strengthen relationships, and boost mood. Some ways you can continue to incorporate travel into your life while social distancing include planning your next trip, taking virtual tours online of various destinations and attractions, researching festivals and other events you’d like to attend, and watching travel videos online. After the pandemic ends, the world will be yours to explore once again! Megan Reimer, Cruise Vacations.
Reduce Stress with Yoga At Home
If you’re feeling stressed, anxious and worried during these uncertain times, you’re not alone. Many of us use work and social events as distractions from the things that bother us. With those taken away, and stress triggers multiplied, it can be easy to slip into unhealthy routines. Practicing yoga at home can add moments of peace into your day. Plus you don’t even have to change from your pyjamas. Join the Virtual Yoga Studio and get your first 30 days for free by using the coupon code ‘SPRING’!
Vision Problems or ADD/ADHD?
Eye coordination and eye movement disorders have very similar symptoms to ADD/ADHD. When you have a child who has difficulty concentrating while you are trying your best to home-school, especially with reading or writing assignments, it is vital that you rule out the possibility that a vision problem may be contributing to your child’s difficulties, before you assume that it’s ADD/ADHD. Not all eye doctors test for vision problems that interfere with reading, learning, and paying attention. Do some research on our website, contact us and we will follow-up to schedule an appointment.
Pets and Bee Stings
Warmer weather, blooming plants and buzzing insects can all spell trouble for your pets. If your curious pooch or pouncing feline gets stung by a bee, here’s what you can do: Scrape away the stinger if you can find it. Pulling the stinger with fingers or tweezers could rupture the poison sac allowing toxin to enter the bloodstream. If no medical history or treatments contraindicate, administer 1 mg Benadryl® per pound of your pet’s body weight and apply a cold pack for short periods at a time. If swelling is severe or if ANY breathing difficulties develop, do not delay—seek veterinary attention immediately.
Are You Fatigued?
You may need vitamin B! Lack of vitamin B in your regimen may impact your physical health in different ways. Hundreds of bodily biochemical reactions are supported by B-vitamins, and deficiency in vitamin B can lead to fatigue and lethargy. A B-complex vitamin is a mixture of eight essential B-vitamins that are critical to metabolism at the cellular level. Isotonix Activated B-complex helps to maintain healthy levels of serotonin, increase energy and decrease stress. It also delivers metabolically active forms of several vitamins and minerals in isotonic form, ensuring that your body receives and uses vital nutrients quickly and efficiently.
Dehydration: A Serious Health Risk for Seniors
As you age, your sense of thirst diminishes. So even when your body needs to be replenished with water, you might not realize it. Because of that, many seniors do not drink enough liquids. By the time they are thirsty, it is already an indication of early dehydration. The consequences of dehydration are well known. Dehydration is a common cause of hospitalization among elderly people that can have serious health consequences. Water can get boring but don’t limit yourself – supplement with juices, milk, fruits and vegetables that contain high water content!
Preventing Screen-Related Eye Strain
Most of us spend a lot of time on computers and other digital devices, and this can take a toll on our eyesight in the form of computer vision syndrome. This is a temporary vision condition that results from staring at a screen too long. Although you may wear regular glasses to correct vision problems, they are not the same as computer glasses, which can help with computer vision syndrome. Wearing prescription or non-prescription computer glasses, along with taking frequent breaks from looking at a screen, can help reduce eye strain and prevent related problems like headaches and dry eyes.
