Kids and Stress

Children face stress every day. It is important to recognize that every child is different, and so are their triggers and reactions to stress. It is helpful for both the children and their parents, to know some active ways to deal with everyday stress. Try some of these stress reducing activities to help alleviate symptoms. Breathing exercises, heading outdoors, exercise, practicing meditation, good sleeping habits, listening to music, playing with the family pet, doing puzzles, taking a bath, or simply talking to friends and family are a few ways to help your body relax and cope.

Avoiding Whiplash Injuries

Whiplash is an impact or blow that causes your head to jerk forward or backward and can cause neck strain. The sudden force stretches and strains the muscles and tendons in your neck. Reduce your risk by ensuring the top of the head restraint in your vehicle is at least level with the top of your head. Position the head restraint so it’s as close to the back of your head as possible. Whiplash injuries respond well when assessed and treated by a physiotherapist. Prescribed exercise programs focused on stretching and strengthening are effective in managing these types of injuries.

Words to Live By

“There is no failure except in no longer trying. There is no defeat except from within, no insurmountable barrier except our own inherent weakness of purpose.”

~ Elbert Hubbard
