In today’s distracted world, where people are panicked when they don’t have instant access to their electronics, face-to-face meetings can be a foreign concept. When getting to know someone, it is important that they feel you are giving them your undivided attention. Cell phones need to be on silent and put away while on a date. Exes are not discussed. Communication needs to be real. Texting and emailing are not appropriate ways to get to know someone. Take the time to call them and have a real conversation. Do an activity on your date where you have ample time to get to learn more about the person. Mini golf, bowling, the zoo, or walking through craft shows are some suggestions that allow you to get to know one another without pressure.

Black Seed Oil
Black Seed Oil
Black seed (Nigella sativa) is the new preferred therapeutic oil prized for its immune-boosting and antibacterial benefits to reduce respiratory, viral, and digestive ailments. This oil has been used medicinally in Middle Eastern cultures for millennia. Anecdotally, it’s been said to “cure everything except for death!” And the research is starting to back that up. Studies show that this versatile oil can regulate the immune system, benefit blood sugar, and has anti-cancer activity (Butt et al, 2010). Even though it’s known for its medicinal power, it can be used in cooking and food preparation. Look for a coldpressed black seed oil and for a synergistic blend, use oregano oil and black seed oil together. Look for a combination with vitamins A and D added to give your immune system the best tools to beat the bugs!
Preventing Dehydration in Seniors
Seniors are at risk of dehydration for a variety of reasons. As we age, our sensation of thirst starts to fade. Immobility can also be an issue, as we might not be able to get ourselves something to drink when we need to. Other causes include medication side effects, symptoms of being ill that cause fluid imbalances, increased urination, and decreased kidney function. Symptoms of dehydration range from low urine output to difficulty walking, and can result in life threatening complications. To help seniors avoid dehydration, provide easy access to liquids, serve food with a high water content, and monitor fluid intake and urine output.
Back to School – The Right Way
Make sure to get the school year started off right in your home with multivitamins! There are many easy and tasty ways to make this a healthy daily habit for you and your family, and the benefits are outstanding. Multivitamins provide a rich balance of essential nutrients for growing bodies and minds, while supporting digestion and a healthy immune system. Why not include them in breakfasts or bag lunches to promote this healthy lifestyle with your children? Sometimes they even taste like candy! What better way to build a solid foundation for the coming school year.
Know the Skin You’re In
Your skin is unique, and it requires specific care to keep it looking and feeling great! There are four main skin types: normal, dry, oily, and combination. The most effective way of identifying yours is to study the appearance of the skin on your face a couple of hours after it has been washed. Skin must be free from any product. Normal skin will appear well balanced, while dry skin will feel tight and may have some flaking. Oily skin will likely have some visibly clogged pores, and combination skin will have some oilier areas (usually the t-zone) with some drier patches (usually on the cheeks).
Book Club: Whose Mind Is It Anyway?
Get Out of Your Head and Into Your Life by Lisa Esile & Franco Esile. Most of us spend our lives trailing after our minds, allowing our brains to take us in directions that are safe and secure, controlled and conformed. Whose Mind Is It Anyway? will help you learn how to separate what you want from what your brain wants and how to do less when your mind is trying to trick you into doing more. In a colorful, funny, and nonthreatening way, it answers the difficult question of how we can take control of our self-defeating behaviors.
It is said, we do what we know…
If we develop the knowledge at an early age to be active and healthy, the benefits will last a lifetime. The benefits of children’s activities can begin as early as 6 months old. Having children participate with trained experts can provide them with age specific skills that challenge them and build their confidence as they grow into their teens. With proper guidance children can have fun as they gain strength, balance, coordination, agility and flexibility while developing social skills, confidence and self-esteem. A child who feels good about him/herself has a jumpstart on the path to success!
Keeping Active In Your Golden Years
As our muscles atrophy (shrink) with age, our metabolism in turn decreases, as does our ability to live a high-functioning life. An exercise program can be started at any age to elevate your metabolic rate and improve things like your posture and ability to carry your groceries and other daily tasks with ease! Include strength training, balance, mobility, flexibility, and cardiovascular endurance in your week. Be consistent with exercise to see the best results, such as a trimmer waistline or lower blood pressure. Ensure that you are working with a professional who has experience working with the older adult population.
Living life on Autopilot?
You are not alone, we have all had that experience of arriving somewhere in our vehicle and thinking “I don’t even remember driving here…” Or realizing our thoughts are on what to make for dinner instead of what your friend or boss is talking to you about. Sound familiar? Sometimes working on autopilot can leave us feeling empty. Here are some tips to combat these feelings: #1. Intentionally pause, and remember where you are. #2. Focus on your breath. #3. Be aware. #4. Gently guide your attention back to where you want it. These tips are great ways to ditch the autopilot setting and live with intention!
