It’s a new year, and we’re excited to announce our new mobile services. Friesen Holistic Wellness now offers three ways to experience the brain-changing benefits of Neuromovement® lessons. Private lessons for adults and children are available in our North Qualicum studio, or through a mobile service that brings sessions directly to your home throughout Oceanside—from Bowser to Qualicum Beach, Parksville, and Nanoose Bay. You can also join online group classes from the comfort of home, resuming in February. Keeping Busy in the Winter
Winter can be chilly and uninviting. As the days grow short and cold, excursions become tricky in the ice and cold. If there is nothing to do, evenings become long. Take this time to explore new things; read a new author; and stretch your mind with a brain game; perhaps you prefer a puzzle; or you can learn an instrument! A home-care service can facilitate you or your loved one staying at home safely. They will get you to errands, help cook a lovely meal or just engage in some good old conversation; whatever is needed. We are happy to help.
Start the New Year with Better Hearing
January is the ideal time to reset your wellness goals — including your hearing. Even mild hearing loss can affect communication, confidence, and overall quality of life, yet many people delay seeking support. A professional hearing evaluation is a quick, comfortable first step toward clearer conversations and stronger connections. Modern hearing aids are discreet, powerful, and tailored to your unique needs, helping you stay engaged in every moment. Prioritize your hearing health this year and discover how improved hearing can enhance your daily life, relationships, and well-being. Your best year yet starts with better hearing.
Meet the Practitioner: Stephanie Brossard
Stephanie is a Certified Advanced Rolfer™. She graduated from the Dr. Ida Rolf Institute in 2015 and completed her advanced training in Germany in 2023. Stephanie is also a certified yoga instructor, which is a great combination for understanding how bodies move and function. Stephanie found Rolfing when she was searching for a solution to the issues she was having after a bunion surgery. She had tried everything she could think of, but nothing seemed to help. Three sessions of Rolfing fixed the problem for good and changed her life forever, as she decided that she wanted to be a Rolfer and help people too.
Help Meet Basic Needs this Winter
With holidays behind us, many residents find this to be the most challenging time of the year. The nights are cold, and housing and grocery prices are high. When finding it difficult to make ends meet, hope cannot wait. That’s why SOS’s Winter Emergency Fund is an essential resource, providing help with groceries, medicine, propane, and other vital items to support those experiencing hardship. To make a difference this winter, donate at www.sosd69.com, call 250-248-2093, or visit the SOS Community Services Centre in Parksville. Thank you for your support.
Holiday Joy in Community
The Christmas season is a time for connection, warmth, and shared joy. Living in an independent senior community makes it even more special. Residents enjoy festive decorations, holiday concerts, and delicious meals without the stress of preparation or cleanup. There’s always company for card games, baking, or reminiscing over cocoa by the tree. With caring staff and a vibrant social calendar, no one feels alone during this magical time of year. Celebrating together, creating new memories, enjoying traditions, and feeling the true spirit of Christmas surrounded by friends who feel like family.
Biofield Tuning for the Winter Season
Winter invites us to slow down, to listen, and to rest in the stillness between cycles. As the outer world grows quiet, we are called inward—to reflect, release, and renew. Biofield Tuning helps us attune to these seasonal rhythms, restoring balance to the body’s electrical system and nurturing inner harmony. Through sound and vibration, we can reconnect with the earth’s grounding pulse and the light within, even amidst the long nights of winter. Allow this season of stillness to be a time of gentle recalibration and deep nourishment. Contact me today for a free consultation.
Make Fall Prevention a Priority
With colder weather comes slippery sidewalks. Falls prevention is key to maintaining health and longevity. Keep your body active to keep your balance. Take a look at your rugs, flooring, lights, and stairs. If the rug is curling, fix it or get rid of it! If the lighting is poor, install higher-wattage bulbs. If the stairs are not safe, install a railing or look into a stair lift. Monitor blood pressure, stay hydrated, and take medications as directed. When venturing outside, be sure to wear sturdy, well-fitting footwear. Prevention is always better than recovery. Call Comfort Keepers today; we can help!
Making Christmas Magic for Residents in Need
This year has been financially challenging for many people. The SOS Caring for Community at Christmas program has been bringing joy to residents in need for over 55 years. With community support, we can ensure that children and youth in our area wake up to find a special gift under the tree on Christmas morning. Families and individuals will have the opportunity to choose food that is meaningful to them during the holidays. You can support the program through a financial donation. Help us fill the SOS Toy Shop by donating new, unwrapped gifts. For more information, please visit the SOS website.
