Breaking up can be unbelievably stressful, on both sides. It’s heartbreaking to be left. And partners don’t always respect the decision to end things. How can you handle the breakup, without wrecking anyone (including yourself)? Do you argue, get insulting, or make life difficult – or do you just give up? It’s hard to be your best self when triggered and disappointed – and when feeling deeply alone. Counselling can be a safe and neutral place to consider how to carry yourself through this time – how to behave, how to set boundaries, how to make a plan, and how to support yourself better.
Benefits of Dog Ownership
Research supports the statement that ‘people who own dogs live longer’, and pet owners have some great advantages in balancing daily living. Your dog gets your day started with a much-needed walk, and possibly a couple more throughout the day. You are loved unconditionally by your furry friend. You take time to groom, train, talk to, and play with your dog – social interaction that can offset hours spent on the computer and phone. A dog can change your life, add to your life, give you a life, and extend your life! Not a bad thing to consider.
Dysregulation, Disorders, and Music Therapy
Music has nonverbal, creative, structural, and emotional qualities. These are used in the therapeutic relationship between client and music therapist to facilitate contact, self-expression, communication, and other clinical goals. Our bodies pulsing with internal rhythms of the heart, the digestive system, and the lungs synchronize to music with its intrinsically rhythmical structure. For people living with autism, ADHD, mood disorders, effects of TBI, stroke, or trauma, the skillful use of music and its elements such as melody, rhythm, and dynamics promotes positive change. Most significantly, it influences the important and necessary shift in physiological and emotional responses away from dysregulation towards regulation and balance.
The Importance of Planning
“A goal without a plan is just a wish.” – Antoine de Saint-Exupery. How many goals have we set and then realized we’ve not reached because there was no follow-through on our part? Planning goes hand in hand with goal setting. If you aspire to retire early, then your money management needs to be very intentional. You need to put a savings plan into place and eliminate any spending that will not aid you in reaching your goal. Smaller goals, such as vacation travel plans, still need to involve planning and saving, and then, of course, enjoying.

Using Essential Oils
Aromatherapy is also referred to as essential oil therapy. It can be defined as the art and science of using highly concentrated medicinal plant extracts to promote mental and physical health. Did you know that one of the most effective ways to enjoy the benefits of essential oils is by diffusing? Breathing deeply relaxes the body and allows the essential oil molecules to be utilized very efficiently. Massage is another wonderful way to enjoy essential oils. Add 3-4 drops to 1 oz of coconut oil and enjoy. Never use essential oils directly on your skin without a carrier oil and NEVER ingest essential oils. Just breathe!
Catching Your Breath
Because breathing is an involuntary action, we rarely pay attention to the process. But did you know that how you breathe impacts your health? Deep nasal breathing can reduce stress, help you fall asleep faster, aid toxin removal, and lower blood pressure to a greater extent than mouth breathing can.
And did you know that your nasal passage serves as a biological air filter, humidifier, and air conditioner to cool the brain? So the next time you’re catching your breath, try deep breathing through your nose and note how much better you feel while going about your day.

Is My Smart Meter Harming Me?
An Electrical power consumption meter, also known as a Smart Meter, periodically emits a very powerful pulse of energy called radiofrequency radiation (rfr), as it wirelessly transmits your records to your hydro company. This signal is designed to penetrate building walls and other objects including your body. Care should be taken not to spend time near a smart meter. For example your sleeping area should be as far away as possible from your meter. As well, if you work a lot at home keep your working area as far away as possible from the meter. Some shielding materials used near the meter are effective in protecting you but should be used cautiously as they can on occasion actually increase your exposure. Careful testing and shielding design by McGinnis Electric is the sure way to protect your health.
Singing to Your Unborn Child
Research shows that an unborn child has the capacity to feel, sense, hear, and communicate from as early as the twelfth week of gestation. For example, maternal fear and stress will affect a fetus’ activity in the womb, hard rock music will produce violently hyperactive movement, or a bright light over the abdomen will increase fetal heartbeat. Singing to your unborn child is a special form of communication that stimulates the physical, psychological, and emotional growth of the developing child. While singing folk songs, lullabies, or a favourite melody directly to your unborn baby, you may be surprised when he or she joins in on the fun.
