Trucare Clinic Now Open

Your wait is over! Trucare Minor Injury & Sport Medicine Clinic, located in the Garden City area (north end of Winnipeg), is now open to treat minor injuries . We are specialized in sports or work-related injuries, sprains, fractures, and chronic pain, including neck, back, hip, and knee pain. We offer cortisone and PRP injections for joint pain, plus in-house X-ray services. A referral is helpful, but walk-ins are welcome. Inside the clinic, Trucare Mobility provides physiotherapy services as well as providing medical supplies, including crutches, braces, compression stockings, wheelchairs, walkers, and more for you and your family.

May is Eye Health Month, a time to focus on the importance of protecting our vision and raising awareness about eye care. Our eyes are essential for daily life, yet many people overlook regular checkups and preventive care. This month highlights the need for early detection of conditions like glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, and ocular risks associated with other health concerns. Simple steps like wearing sunglasses, eating eye-healthy foods, taking safety precautions and scheduling annual eye exams can preserve vision for a lifetime. Whether you have perfect sight or wear glasses, Eye Health Month is a reminder to care for your eyes—they’re the windows to the world and deserve attention.

Nutrition for Eye Health

As we age, we are often at a higher risk for vision problems. While some age-related vision changes can be inevitable, others may be prevented or delayed by eating a nutritious diet. Foods that may help protect eye health as we age include: 1) Berries, currants, and grapes – contain anthocyanins, a powerful antioxidant. 2) Orange and red fruits and veggies – contain beta-carotene. 3) Fatty fish, nuts/seeds and plant oils – contain omega-3 fatty acids. 4) Citrus fruits, strawberries and red peppers – contain vitamin C. 5) Leafy greens, squash, eggs, kiwi and grapes – contain the antioxidants lutein and zeaxanthin.

Eye Healthy Recipe

Easy Green Smoothie. This refreshing smoothie is hydrating and filled with vitamins for your eyes, such as – vitamin K, lutein, zeaxanthin, carotenoids. A handful of spinach. 1½ cups frozen pineapple chunks. 1½ cups frozen peach chunks. 1 banana. 1 can light coconut milk (400 ml). 1 tsp. of ground flax and hemp seeds. Add ingredients to blender. Add fresh spinach, fruit, and coconut milk into a blender. Blend & Enjoy!

Gardening Tips

Though peaceful, gardening can be tough on your body. Start with light exercise to warm up, and stretch before and after to prevent strain. Use a wheelbarrow to move tools and supplies, and be mindful of posture—avoid twisting, bend your knees when lifting, and hold items close to your body. When weeding or planting, kneel on pads instead of bending from the waist. Choose sharp, ergonomic tools to reduce effort. Change tasks often to use different muscle groups and avoid repetitive stress. Take short breaks to stretch and rest. With care, gardening can stay safe, enjoyable, and pain-free.
