Dentures should be relined or renewed to maintain optimal fit, comfort, and functionality. Over time, changes in the jawbone structure occur, which can lead to a loose fit of the dentures. Relining involves adding new material to the base of the denture to adapt to these changes and restore a proper fit. Renewal becomes necessary due to wear and tear, which can result in deterioration of the denture’s material, affecting its effectiveness and appearance. Regular relining or renewal ensures that dentures remain snug, comfortable, and functional, allowing wearers to speak, eat, and smile with confidence.
Downsizing: Sell First or Buy First?
Most owners need to sell to release the equity of their current home to purchase their next home. While the ideal situation is to make an offer “subject to the sale of my home,” market conditions, particularly hot, competitive ones, render this option hopeless. There are several strategies you can employ to successfully downsize, and I’ll be discussing this at our upcoming downsizing seminar. Email Tony at primeteam.ca or call 250-419-7439 to register for this free event.

Ask The Expert
Q: Is it really possible to detect a brain tumour during an eye exam?
A: Yes, but only indirectly. For example, some types of brain tumours can cause changes to the optic nerve and can affect vision a certain way, and these things can be picked up during a routine eye exam. Further testing and imaging would be necessary to make a proper diagnosis in such a case, and it should be stated that many types of brain tumours do not affect the eyes at all. Come see us at Mosaic for your next eye examination!
Senior Dental Nutrition
Nutrition plays a crucial role in supporting senior dental health. A dental-friendly diet rich in essential nutrients like calcium, vitamin D, and phosphorus is paramount for maintaining strong teeth and gums. Seniors should prioritize incorporating dairy products, leafy greens, nuts, and fish into their meals to promote optimal dental health. Additionally, staying adequately hydrated is essential as it stimulates saliva production, aiding in neutralizing acids and protecting against tooth decay. By making these dietary adjustments, seniors can significantly contribute to preserving their oral health and overall well-being as they age.
Campbell River Better at Home
We are excited to announce that Comox Senior Support Society has been contracted to run the Campbell River Better at Home program. The Better at Home program helps seniors/elders continue living in their own homes longer and stay connected in the community by providing some basic non-medical home support services.
Residents in Campbell River who are 65 years of age and older, and who meet the program’s objectives can access the Better at Home services within the program’s resource constraints. Becoming a Campbell River Better at Home client involves an initial meeting with our Better at Home Program staff to discuss the program, confirm eligibility, and complete registration forms. For more information or to contact the office call: 250-830-8709, or email: [email protected]
Help feed a Senior for $12 a week
In partnership with LUSH Valley Food Action Society, CVSS provides 82 meals a week to seniors in the Comox Valley. While some seniors contribute to the cost of the weekly meals, they are heavily subsidized. A donation of $12 a week will provide between two and four meals for a senior in the Valley, helping ensure food security for vulnerable residents. Donations can be made at the CVSS office, or by cheque, via mail at C1-450 8th Street, Courtenay, BC, V9N 1N5. Tax receipts are provided for donations over $20. Alternatively, monthly donations can be set up on our Canada Helps website at: https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/comox-valley-senior-support/
