Supporting Mental Health & Wellbeing

For low-income parents who have young children, the last two years have been especially difficult. Financial stress, months of social isolation, and the daily challenge of keeping growing minds and bodies busy have taken their toll. And for older children and youth, school disruption and the loss of social connection with their friends have affected their academic and emotional well-being. That’s why SOS Child, Youth and Family programs are so important for supporting mental health and well-being. To learn more about these free programs, or how to support them, visit our website, call us or come by our Community Services Centre in Parksville.

Causes of Hearing Loss

Hearing loss often occurs with age when the inner ear structures degenerate, causing a loss of protective hairs and nerve cells. Other factors that can increase an individual’s risk of developing hearing problems include *Loud noise or occupational hazards: One-time or continuous exposure to high decibel sounds. *Heredity: Your genetic makeup or family history. *Traumatic head injuries. *Ear disease and other diseases like otosclerosis or Ménière’s disease. *Other illnesses: high fever and some medications can damage the inner ear. Consult a hearing professional if you or a loved one is struggling with hearing loss.

Rebalance, Reset & Relax

The human body is amazing. It can be rebalanced and reset on a physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual level. A therapy session in The Harmonic Egg, a uniquely engineered bio resonance chamber, activates the body’s repair mechanism to promote profound relaxation. With the fusion of advanced technology and ancient wisdom, it uses the vibrational energies of sacred geometry, light, colour and sound. These frequencies vibrate to create a 360 degree amplified resonance experience that returns the body to homeostasis. Each energy therapy session is individually tailored and is precisely controlled, consistent, and repeatable. It is completely non-invasive and 100% safe.

Supporting Individuals with Alzheimer’s

Alzheimer’s disease presents unique challenges for individuals living with the disease and the people caring for them. Here are three approaches you can consider as you care for your loved one: *Engage them with meaningful activities such as folding clothes or working on a puzzle. *Accept your limitations as a caregiver and recognize when and where you need support. *Learn helpful communication strategies. There isn’t one “right” way of communicating with all individuals, so try different strategies to find what works best to help your loved one feel supported. Learn more on our blog at CBI.ca.

Ask your funeral home or cemetery about free online memorials. *Pay it forward – Volunteer or donate to her favourite charity. *Remember her favourites – Honour and remember her by doing something she loved. *Celebrate together – Host a video call where everyone can exchange stories and share her favourite memory.

Can You Do a Pelvic Tilt?

When people try to do a pelvic tilt, they usually 1) try to suck their abs in like a posing bodybuilder, (2) push their back out like a Halloween cat silhouette, or (3) squeeze their bum forward like a scared dog. Do any of these moves sound athletic? The majority of people cannot perform or sustain a pelvic tilt properly. If you can’t tilt your pelvis, you can become constipated, lose range of hip and shoulder mobility, get bunions (they are not genetic!), lose bladder control, and no matter how many ab exercises you do, your belly will not get smaller. I can help.

Rewrite the Software of your Mind

If you were to create your life today, what would you change? Would you like better health, more loving relationships or more purpose and meaning in life? Almost everything we do is based on our beliefs in the subconscious mind, because we operate about 95% of our lives from the subconscious programming. PSYCH-K® is a fast and painless way to rewrite limiting beliefs or the perception of trauma in the subconscious mind. Based on years of research and thousands of sessions with individuals and groups it is a simple and direct way to “update” the programming in the subconscious mind with the help of kinesiology.

Do You Grind Your Teeth?

Bruxism, better known as teeth grinding, can be caused by stress and anxiety, an abnormal bite, missing and crooked teeth, or it can be due to sleep disorder. When under stress, many people find themselves grinding their teeth or clenching their jaws during sleep. Over time, bruxism may lead to symptoms such as dull headaches or a sore jaw. Severe grinding can lead to painful, loose teeth or fractures in your teeth. Consult your dentist to determine if you have a problem. You may need a mouth guard to protect your teeth during sleep.
