Balancing Vata in Autumn

According to Ayurveda, fall is Vata season as it is marked by some of the same qualities that characterize Vata: cold, dry, light, clear, and moving. When too much Vata accumulates in the body and mind, the imbalance may manifest as physical or emotional disorders, including insomnia, dry skin, arthritis, constipation, high blood pressure, anxiety, and depression. Daily Abhyanga, or oil massage, balances Vata. Avoid eating dry, cold, and raw food during this season, as it aggravates Vata. Our body naturally wants to avoid too much activity. Practice gentle yoga and alternate nostril breathing. Purnima Chaudhari, Certified Ayurvedic Practitioner, Reflexologist & Reiki Master, AyuReviveAyurveda.com

Do’s and Don’ts of Dating

In today’s distracted world where people are panicked when they don’t have instant access to their electronics, face-to-face meetings can be a foreign concept. When getting to know someone it is important that they feel you are giving them your undivided attention. Cell phones need to be on silent and put away while on a date. Ex’s are not discussed. Communication needs to be real. Texting and emailing are not appropriate ways to get to know someone. Take the time to call them and have a real conversation. Do an activity on your date where you have ample time to get to learn more about the person. Mini golf, bowling, the zoo, or walking through craft shows are some suggestions that allow you to get to know one another without pressure. Lianne Tregobov, CamelotIntroductions.com

Food Cravings and Health

Do you ever find yourself wanting a certain food and you need to have it right this second? This could mean that your hormones might be out of balance and could be related to adrenal function. Finding successful ways to handle stress and adding the proper adrenal support is important. Cravings can also be associated with the menstrual cycle in women. During menstrual cycles, proper nutrition and lifestyle considerations are important to aid in balancing hormones. Cravings can also occur when you’re trying to lose weight. This might happen if you are restricting your diet and not getting the proper nutritional balance. Dr. Ana M. Cvitko, N.D., Healthy by Nature Naturopathic Cinic, DrAnaCvitkoND.com

Developmental Vision Disorders

Developmental vision disorders interfere with the ability to function in our high-tech, educationally driven society by causing difficulty with reading, doing paperwork, paying attention, concentrating, and working on the computer. Sadly, 1 in 4 children have vision problems that interfere with their ability to learn, yet they do not report having visual difficulties. And many adults are amazed to discover how many of their signs and symptoms are actually due to a previously undiagnosed visual disorder. Unlike a regular eye exam, a developmental visual evaluation is required to determine if any learning-related visual dysfunctions are present. Have You Had Your Probiotic Today?

Probiotics play a key role in the body by improving gastrointestinal functions, enhancing immunity, regulating hormones, protecting us from food-borne illnesses, controlling overgrowth of bad bacteria, and assisting in vitamin production & nutrient absorption. Here’s what to look for in your probiotic:
1. High culture count – Culture count refers to the total amount of live bacterial cultures in a single serving i.e. 50 Billion cfu (colony forming units)
2. Number of strains – There are over a thousand strains of beneficial bacteria in the gut. Look for multiple strains of lactobacilli and bifidobacteria.
3. Make sure the capsule is designed to protect probiotics – Enteric coated capsules remain intact throughout the harsh stomach environment and begin dissolving in the intestine where the pH is more alkaline.
All of these factors can be found in the Ultimate Flora line of probiotics by Renew Life.

You Need an Autumn Massage if…

• You’ve been active this summer. Help your body recover before temperatures drop and joint pain increases.
• You’ve traveled long hours. Resulting in neck and back strain.
• Summer sandals have been your style staple. Without proper support, this can result in back pain.
• You’ve been gardening. Squatting and bending over can put stress on your body.
• You suffer from seasonal depression.
• You’ve been getting poor sleep.

Too often, we look at massage as a frivolous expense and ignore the powerful benefits it can have on our bodies and minds.
Fall is the perfect time to take care of yourself and to renew your energy. Julie Sagnes, RMT ParadiseBreeze.ca

Celebrate Medication Safety Week

Medication Safety Week (MSW) is Canada’s only national campaign to raise awareness of patient safety and related programs and initiatives. Thousands of healthcare professionals, patients, and their families will take part in events and activities related to medication safety in their organizations, facilities, and communities. MSW started in 2005 and is now an annual event to keep the issue of patient safety foremost in the minds of Canadians. Medication safety issues can impact health outcomes, length of stay in a healthcare facility, readmission rates, and overall costs to Canada’s healthcare system. Join us in celebrating Medication Safety Week, October 30 to November 8, 2017.

Are You Allergic to Gluten?

Gluten allergies have been increasing dramatically and gluten has been linked to illnesses such as celiac disease. Gluten is found in various grains, such as wheat, barley, and rye, and is difficult to avoid because it is in many foods. Bioresonance therapy can be used to test for celiac disease and can improve your immune system so the body can heal itself. This therapy involves sending healthy frequencies into your body to increase its energy and improve your health. Bioresonance therapy is completely painless and non-invasive.
