Falls in the home are all too common. By making a few modifications to slippery floors, poor lighting, loose rugs, electrical cords and clutter, you can prevent dangerous situations. Visit each room in your home. Then look at the space objectively and ask: Is this safe? Are there objects or items that present a fall risk? If so, think about the many ways to create a safer home: wear non slip socks or slippers, use night lights in dark hallways, remove throw rugs, keep electrical cords safely hidden behind furniture and organize your projects so they are off the floor and out of walkways.

Healthy Lifestyle Reboot
The Christmas season can be hard on our resolve to maintain a healthy lifestyle. We tend to overeat, indulge in sweets and drink a little more alcohol than normal. Let’s face it, the holidays puts a strain on us and our body’s natural ability to fight toxins. To help your body recover from the holidays, eat healthy foods loaded with antioxidants, phytochemicals and valuable nutrients. These will detox your system and help you feel refreshed for the start of a new year. You may also want to consider adding supplements. Your local health food store can help you chose the best ones for you.

Keep Your Home Healthy this Winter
“Close the door, you are letting in the cold air”. Our homes are built to be energy efficient and we diligently seal any cracks that may be allowing cold drafts into the house. Unfortunately, this also seals off our home from fresh air. In turn this increases the concentration of VOCs from the use of cleaning products, traditional air fresheners and scented personal products. To keep your air healthy, try unscented products, add certain indoor plants and open windows when seasonally possible. There are also a growing number of natural, scent-free air fresheners that absorb both odours and chemicals.
Honour Yourself During the Holidays
The holidays can be a time of loving reunions, catch-ups, heartfelt connections, and joy, or they can be filled with obligations, expectations, and old patterns with emerging drama. When we can empower ourselves to know we have a choice as to where to best put our energies, what to let go of and forgive, and where to take a stand and set boundaries, we honour ourselves. Despite the illusion of social media, the “perfect family” does not exist where all things look “wonderful and together” all the time. Instead, the holidays offer us the perfect opportunity to stay true and nurture ourselves in the midst of giving and receiving.

Do Sit-Ups Cause Pain?
There has been recent discussion that sit-ups are harmful to your back. Sit-ups engage hip flexor muscles, which are attached to the lumbar spine and lumbar discs. In theory, this movement and contraction can potentially cause irritation. However, this is all based on biomechanical theory and not real scientific evidence. The sit-up is a core exercise designed to activate our rectus abdominus, which is the muscle that shows off a wonderful six-pack of abs. The sit-up alone will not achieve this, as what is required is a well-designed and well-rounded exercise program, along with a sound nutritional plan.

Adrenal Fatigue
Adrenal glands can affect our mental function. Adrenal fatigue causes chronic mental fatigue, depression, mental slowing, anxiety, cravings for salty foods, overuse of stimulants like caffeine, difficulty in getting up early, and inability to lose weight. The function of the adrenal glands tends to degrade as one gets older, with variations in the rate of the degeneration due to genetic and environmental factors. Environmental factors include stress, diet, pollutants, and habit. For example, caffeine overuse and smoking negatively affect the organs because they accelerate the exhaustion of key nutrients that prevent adrenal fatigue.

Where Is Love?
You’ve decided enough is enough. You have plenty going for yourself and you want to share your life with someone special but where on earth are you going to find them? Times have changed. We live in an electronic world but computers don’t have hearts and you don’t know if the person behind the screen is authentic. You have asked your friends and coworkers if they know anyone right for you and you have been insulted by who they have suggested! A matchmaker specializes in finding love for people who are looking for one special partner. An effective matchmaker meets with all potential clients in person and determines who the right person is for them. A criminal record check should be conducted on each client. When choosing a matchmaker it is important that you work with a service that has been in business for quite some time and has many success stories. Have a Denture Check-up Every Year
Your dentures should be checked on an annual basis to ensure you still have a correct fit. Your face and tissues in your mouth change over the years, while your dentures are rigid and stay the same. Your appearance and comfort can be compromised the longer you delay receiving care from your denturist. Annual visits to your denture clinic can help ward off many potential problems including headaches, neck and joint pain, irritated gums, indigestion, problems with chewing, and even bone loss and occasionally changes in facial contour. Are you due for a check-up? Andrew Fast, Fast Dentures, FastDentures.ca
When to Set an Intention
You could set an intention every day. It could be to work less and make more, or to find a new career that you are passionate about. It could be to get healthy and physically fit, or to spend more quality time with loved ones or alone.
At age 70, Bessie set an intention to become a world famous photographer. Although many thought she was too old, she didn’t. She entered a photo contest and won the first prize of $10,000. Her prize-winning photo toured around the world with a Kodak exhibit. She told me, “We’re never too old to make a dream come true.”

Break Free from Sadness
We know that sadness is appropriate when we face a loss of any kind. We also know that time has a way of bringing us back to enjoying those activities and relationships that are meaningful to us. In some cases, however, we feel stuck in sadness. With a decrease in sunlight, SAD (seasonal affective disorder) might even get a grip on us. If there’s often a sad undercurrent in your life that you sense doesn’t need to be there, it’s time to reach out for help. Brainwave Optimization is a technology that addresses issues through the brain itself, helping it reset itself so you can enjoy life again.
