Fall Recovery

It’s still cold out there, folks! We need to be careful about falling on icy sidewalks. Falls outside in low-temperature conditions pose an increased threat if it happens where you’re isolated—you could be injured and unable to get up quickly. The risk of hypothermia, frostbite, and pneumonia on top of recovering from an injury is a threat. If you fall, turn your head and roll over onto your side. Move slowly, with your head first, then the rest of your body. Steady yourself with something sturdy, like a bench. Finally, raise yourself and sit down to recover before seeking help.

Find Calm with Mindful Touch

Feeling stressed? Pause and reconnect. Place your hands gently on your heart or belly, close your eyes, and take slow, deep breaths. Focus on the warmth of your touch, offering yourself a moment of comfort and calm. This simple practice eases anxiety and helps you feel grounded anytime, anywhere. Reiki also helps with stress. Reiki energy healing is a holistic practice that taps into the universal life force energy to restore balance in the body, mind, and spirit. Downsizing Checklist for Seniors

The thought of downsizing can be very frightening. Here is a checklist that can make the task less daunting: *Create a plan—decide on a moving date, hire help, and decide what you can’t live without. *Organize future floor space—measure your future home and your furniture to make sure it will fit. *Tackle smaller areas first. *Get rid of unwanted items—host a yard sale, donate, recycle, or give them away. *Move larger areas—organize kitchens, bathrooms, and bedrooms. *Prepare moving paperwork—contact utility services, update billing address, and notify the post office of the change of address. Holistic Wellness Practice – Acupuncture

Women’s History Month highlights the deep connection between women and healing traditions, particularly the transformative power of holistic wellness practices. Acupuncture, an ancient healing art, offers women a profound tool for balancing hormones, reducing stress, and enhancing fertility and reproductive health. This traditional practice, combined with mindful nutrition and herbal medicine, empowers women to take charge of their well-being beyond conventional healthcare. As we celebrate gender equality, we recognize how these holistic approaches address women’s unique health needs—from menstrual health to menopausal support. These practices honour the body’s innate wisdom while providing natural, sustainable paths to wellness that support women through all life stages.

Are you Dentures Moving Around?

Denture adhesives, yeah THAT gooey stuff. If your lower denture is moving around too much and causing frequent sore spots, it may be time to try a denture adhesive. Years ago, the formula was changed due to problems caused by overuse. Do they work? Most of the time they last until you have a coffee or a meal, not eight hours as advertised. They are not the best solution, but in a pinch, if you are singing a love song to your spouse, maybe. Just remember to use as little as possible; it should not be a ¼ inch cushion.

Help Support Emergency Needs

As we enjoy the longer days and added sunlight, there are still many members of our community who are struggling to get by. The cold nights and rising grocery prices can be overwhelming. When times are tough, hope can’t wait! SOS’s Emergency Needs Fund plays a vital role in uplifting residents and providing them with much-needed support. SOS provides vouchers for groceries, medicine, propane, and other basic needs to support residents who are experiencing hardship. Join us in making a meaningful impact. Make a donation on our website, give us a call, or come by our Community Services Centre in Parksville. Thank you.

March is Here; Time to Go Outdoors

Spring is in the air, with it, a feeling of hopefulness and renewal. Winter tends to see us more in solitude. Once it warms up and the days are longer, we want to spend more time outdoors and with friends. These activities are good for our health. Fresh air and sunshine can do wonders for our physical and mental health, and socializing helps with our mental and emotional health. Once we start, we tend to want to do more healthy things, so get out and walk with a friend, socialize, and engage—you’ll feel better about it!

Is Your “Battery” Fully Charged?

When you have low energy, you may experience a wide range of energetic, emotional, or physical issues. These may include anxiety, depression, fear, grief, adrenal fatigue, and others. Biofield Tuning can help charge your battery. It is a sound therapy method that uses the frequency produced by tuning forks for targeted nervous system relaxation. Since we mainly consist of water, and sound moves four times faster through water, frequency is very influential for our health and well-being. I use the steady, coherent vibrational frequency of a tuning fork to assist your body to “tune and charge” itself by relaxing and releasing tension. Contact me for a free consultation.

Kinesiology for Long-Term, Optimal Health

For many individuals recovering from injury or managing chronic conditions, the transition from physiotherapy to kinesiology is a natural next step. While both professions focus on improving physical function and overall well-being, they serve complementary roles in the journey to recovery and optimal health. Once the initial recovery phase is complete, a kinesiologist can step in to continue the rehabilitation process and support long-term health. They build on the foundation established by physiotherapy, creating personalized programs to improve strength, flexibility, endurance, and overall physical capacity. Whether you’re stepping down from physiotherapy or looking for ongoing support, Vanisle Kinesiology is here to help you.

Home care offers families peace of mind, knowing their loved ones are receiving compassionate, reliable care. Beyond practical assistance, caregivers bring warmth and companionship—engaging in conversations, activities like puzzles or crafts, and sharing moments of joy through music and storytelling. Talk to your family about the benefits of aging in place with the right support to help you thrive at home.
