The International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) has defined pain as “an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with ACTUAL or POTENTIAL tissue damage”.
Pain is personal, difficult for an outsider to understand fully, but it is not unusual—all of us have some understanding of pain. Each individual learns through experiences related to injury early in life.
Acute pain is usually adaptive and can alert us to something that is harmful.
Persistent pain is not adaptive. This may not indicate tissue damage, but it also triggers those psychological responses that have been learned at an early age and with past painful events.
Using Over The Counter Medications Safely
Over the counter medications can treat many conditions and make you feel better but not all of them may be appropriate for you! For example, certain OTC medications may not be recommended if a patient has high blood pressure or if they’re pregnant. Certain OTC medications may also interact with other prescription meds that a patient has. If a healthcare professional has told you that the OTC medication is safe to use, also make sure you are following the directions properly! Contact your pharmacist to find out if you can safely use your OTC medications of if you have any other health related questions!
What is Bioresonance Therapy?
Bioresonance therapy helps with imbalances that are caused by environmental pollutants, toxins, irritants, and pathogens. It does this by activating the body’s ability to heal itself and regulate its processes. Besides reducing imbalances and helping the body to recover, Bioresonance Therapy may also help to identify and even prevent health problems. Some of the many conditions that may be treated with Bioresonance Therapy include allergies, acute and chronic pain, asthma, skin problems, stress/anxiety, energy blockages, and smoking. The number of treatments required depends on a number of factors, as each individual will have different needs.

What is Peer Support?
“A Peer Support Provider offers emotional and social support to others who share a common experience.” Mental Health Commission of Canada. Take a Load Off
Maintaining workplace mental health is vitally important. Stats show that most people spend the majority of their waking hours at work. Using break times is one effective way to improve overall mental health and boost productivity! Oftentimes, busy schedules and looming deadlines prevent us from taking breaks when we need them most. A short time away, doing something we enjoy, helps to reduce stress and emotional exhaustion, while providing a fresh focus and the necessary energy to accomplish tasks. Stretching, walking, listening to music, and reading or watching something funny are all ways to help lighten the load.
Learning-Related Vision Disorders
While 20/20 vision is a great start, our vision is also related to how well our eyes work together with our brain to process visual information. Many children who suffer with vision problems can go undiagnosed since learning-related vision disorders may not be revealed through a regular eye exam. Lack of eye movement control, focusing difficulties, poor visual memory, and much more can make learning seem overwhelming. Without fundamental visual skills, children may have more difficulty with reading, writing, and comprehension at school. A developmental optometrist diagnoses and provides treatment options for learning-related vision disorders.
Ways to Enjoy Meals for One
Living alone can be a truly positive experience and planning quality meals is a great way to achieve this.
Invite a Friend:
A creative option – don’t always eat meals for one! Plan a get-together with friends and family over food. Meet for tapas at a market, reminisce at a favourite restaurant, or invite someone to cook a new recipe with you.
Much like eating a balanced meal is good for your body, finding a balance between the joys of eating solo and with friends is good for your emotional health. Look for opportunities to share the experience, even when you feel equally comfortable alone.
Elder Abuse is Real!
One of the most underreported crimes in Canada is elder abuse. As of 2016 over 700,000 reports of abuse were recorded. Some abuse is invisible like neglect, psychological abuse and abuse of finances. The people most vulnerable are those who live in social isolation or suffer serious health conditions. And when it comes to physical abuse, data from statistics Canada shows 60% of senior domestic violence victims are female. Warning signs for elder abuse include: Anxiety or fearfulness about someone the elderly individual should trust. Dehydration, poor nutrition, or poor hygiene. Speak to your loved ones about elder abuse and learn more about the resources available to help victims in your community.
Dentures and TMJ Pain
TMJ (temporomandibular joint) disorder causes symptoms like popping or pain in your jaw and/or neck, headaches, problems with balance, and even hearing loss. One of the common causes of TMJ disorder is the displacement of the disc that cushions the bones of the joint that connects your jaw to your skull. Displacement of the disc may be caused by an incorrect bite, which means the teeth no longer fit together properly, and therefore the jaw joint and muscles cannot work the way they need to. A denturist will be able to determine whether there are issues with the bite and can provide proper-fitting dentures with an optimal occlusion.
Countering Effects of Sitting
The average person spends at least 9 hours a day sitting. It’s hard to escape the fact that the advance of technology has made us a very sedentary society. While many things in our lives have become easier, we have become unhealthy. Sitting has been coined “the new smoking” and almost everyone who sits in front of a computer at work is dealing with some kind of postural stress. Regular massage can counteract the imbalance caused from too much sitting, which can show up as pain and tightness in the neck, shoulders, and lower back. Massage therapy is the skillful manipulation of the soft tissues of the body, combining kneading, pressure, and percussion of the muscles to relieve tension and restore balance and posture
