Nutrition and Fall Prevention for Seniors

Proper nutrition plays an important role in preventing falls among older adults. Adequate protein intake helps maintain muscle strength and balance, reducing the risk of weakness-related falls. Calcium and vitamin D are essential for bone health, lowering the chance of fractures if a fall occurs. Vitamin B12 supports nerve function and coordination, while magnesium contributes to muscle function. Staying well hydrated also helps prevent dizziness and low blood pressure. Diets rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats support overall mobility and energy. Consistent, balanced nutrition helps older adults stay strong, steady, and independent.

Spooky2 11-Day Remote Detox

Developed by John White, Spooky2 applies low-intensity frequency wellness technology to explore support for the body’s natural detoxification and regulatory processes. The 11-Day Remote Detox delivers programmed frequency sets remotely, designed to engage biofeedback responses associated with lymphatic activity, cellular communication, and nervous system regulation.

Participants commonly report improved energy, mental clarity, better sleep, and reduced inflammation. Research in frequency-based wellness suggests targeted frequencies may interact with biological systems without physical intervention. 11-Day Remote Detox $222

Power of Light for Cellular Healing

Photobiomodulation is an evidence-based therapy that uses specific wavelengths of light to stimulate healing at the cellular level. The ARRC Elysium LED Bed combines six optimized light wavelengths with pulsed electromagnetic field therapy (PEMF) to reduce inflammation and pain, improve circulation, and enhance energy production (ATP). By supporting mitochondrial function, this therapy promotes recovery, resilience, and overall cellular performance. Benefits may extend to the nervous system, immune system, muscles, joints, and skin. By lowering oxidative stress and calming inflammatory signaling, photobiomodulation supports whole-body healing and helps patients feel restored, energized, and balanced.

Campbell River Threshold Singers

Pure Joy Threshold Choir sings at many thresholds of life. This choir of 15 individuals from Quadra Island and Campbell River sings to those in palliative care/hospice, to shut-ins, newborns, and at celebrations of life. The Threshold Choir is non-denominational and serves religious and non-religious clients. Songs are short and are selected according to the client’s taste. When singing at bedside, 2 to 4 members attend and sing in soft voices. This service is free and the choir sings by invitation only. To make a request, or join the choir, contact Mary at (250) 202-1003. *There is also a Comox Chapter, information to come.

Get Ready for Golf Season

Golf season is just around the corner, and shoulder stiffness or golfer’s elbow can make your game uncomfortable. Dr. Priscilla offers targeted techniques to improve shoulder range of motion, strengthen supporting muscles, and reduce strain on the elbow. Simple stretches, soft tissue work, and corrective exercises can enhance swing mechanics, prevent injury, and make each round more enjoyable. Whether you’re driving off the tee or finishing a putt, proper preparation helps you play comfortably and confidently. Start early, and get your body ready to hit the course pain-free this season!

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal tunnel syndrome describes median nerve compression at the wrist, and can cause pain and/or numbness in the palm of the hand. Similar symptoms can be caused by compression of nerves near the elbow, shoulder or neck so a detailed physical examination is important before providing treatment. Treatment options can include laser therapy, soft tissue therapies to reduce compression on the affected nerve, and home exercises including nerve flossing exercises. Book in with a chiropractor in our office and we can provide a detailed neurological assessment.

Ask The Expert

Q: The lenses in my glasses are scratched up. Can I not get those scratches buffed out?
A: That’s pretty difficult. Scratches and scuffs typically damage the coatings on the lens, and the coating itself cannot be re-applied or polished up without making the lens hazy. Ideally the coatings ought to make the lenses more durable. Make sure to ask about options for lens materials, proper lens care and warranties with your next eyewear purchase! We will gladly guide you through those options at Mosaic Optometry.
