Staying Healthy in Winter with Diet

Winter is characterized by coldness, darkness, and dormancy, and we must adapt to it by using
more energy to stay warm and maintain homeostasis. Our mood tends to be more subdued
due to a decrease in sunlight, causing a drop in serotonin transmitters. Winter is an ideal time
to use food for nourishment and supplementation. Eat foods with a warm nature such as beef,
lamb, potatoes, yams, squash, ginger, cinnamon, apples, and pears. Eat more and rest more
which will preserve your energy for more fun in the summer and reduce the chances of getting sick or feeling depressed

Shockwave Therapy: The Gold Standard

The FDA has approved the use of Shockwave Therapy (SWT) for the treatment of plantar fasciitis and other tendon injures. SWT is a non-invasive treatment that involves delivery of shock waves to injured tissue to ultimately reduce pain and promote healing. Multiple high-quality randomized clinical trials/research has provided substantial evidence that SWT is a safe and effective non-invasive option for treating tendinopathy & calcifications throughout the musculoskeletal system. At Origin Integrated Health we are currently yielding positive results using SWT for chronic injuries to tendons in the rotator cuff/shoulder, elbow, hip/hamstring, Achilles and plantar fascia.

Resolutions for 2022

With the start of the new year, we are all hoping that this one will be different than last year and the year before that. 2021 is now officially over and as we embark on 2022, it is time to move forward. Let’s work on making resolutions that will help us through. Focus on that all-important Self-care (and Community-care)! Find the things in life that are enjoyable (and able to do within the constrictions of the pandemic), and resolve to commit to them regularly. Be specific yet flexible, and most importantly, make them enjoyable (not just healthy)!

Smoking Affects Your Hearing

Did you make any New Year’s resolutions? If you are a smoker, you can now add increased risk of hearing loss to the list of reasons to quit. The chemicals found in cigarettes may affect the way your ear processes sound. In fact, smokers have been found to be 15% more likely to have hearing loss than non-smokers. Hearing loss isn’t fatal, but it can lead to a number of health-related issues down the line. Dementia & depression have been linked to untreated hearing loss, so be sure to have your ears checked regularly. Get started by scheduling a hearing test today.
