Go Organic – Your Skin will Love it!
Skin care products with certified organic ingredients and no fillers provide real nutritional benefits. Organic ingredients such as Coconut oil, Beeswax, Cocoa Butter and Essential Oils soothe, nourish, moisturize and promote smooth and soft skin. They will not cause long-term harm to your body. The synthetic ingredients found in non-organic products may, with long term use, damage your skin as your body tries to cope with these foreign substances. Certified organic ingredients are derived from plants. They are grown without the use of pesticides, herbicides, synthetic fertilizers, genetically modified organisms (GMOs), and other additives or chemicals. Love your body – go organic!
Back to School Germ Protection
It is back to school time! Family members know that they are more prone to getting sick when their child is back in school and among their friends. Here are some simple prevention tips for adults and children to guard against nasty germs. *Frequent hand washing *Don’t share towels, lip balm, other items that may be contaminated with respiratory germs * Wash and disinfect countertops and surfaces regularly. * Take good care of your insides! Eat a nutritious whole foods diet including lots of fruit and veggies. Fermented foods or probiotics creates healthy gut flora which is also a good defense against germs.
Seniors and Stress
Chronic stress is harmful to people of all ages, but its impact on older adults can be particularly severe, increasing the risk of age-related diseases, hastening cognitive decline and even triggering falls. Stressors that are common amongst the elderly include: loss of control, personal loss, declining health, financial worries, personal safety and loss of independence. To reduce stress, get regular exercise, eat balanced meals to ensure the mind and body are properly fueled and ask for help. Talking with a trusted family member, friend or healthcare professional, at the very least, releases pent-up stress and may even lead to a solution.

Guide for Selecting a Care Home
Without guidance and support, transitioning a loved one to a care home can be an overwhelming responsibility. Here are some steps to get you started. *Research homes in the area and ask friends and family for recommendations. *Call the homes and share your loved one’s story. They may be able to recommend homes to suit your loved one’s needs.*Book a tour to experience the home in person and to ensure that the atmosphere feels right for your loved one. *Ask all the questions you need to ease your mind. Don’t know what to ask? Refer to our website for Questions for Care Homes as a starting point.
Peace of Mind
Peace of mind is perhaps the most compelling reason to pre-plan and pre-pay for your final arrangements. Preplanning can be a simple as having a conversation with your loved ones to let them know what your wishes are. Planning ahead helps to ease the emotional burden for your loved ones at a time of great emotional stress, alleviates any questions, problems or differences that can occur among family members, and assures that your wishes will be fulfilled. The next step, pre-payment, prevents a potential financial strain for your loved ones and guarantees costs
Fall Prevention
Falls are a real concern for older adults. One out of three people over the age of 65 fall each year. The good news is that most falls are preventable by changing risky behaviour, taking steps to proactively manage health, and by safety proofing homes. Additionally, it’s important to ask yourself: If I were to fall tonight, how would I get help if I couldn’t reach the phone? Subscribing to a medical alert service is a great way to ensure that, if you do fall, you can access help 24/7 with the press of a button. Some services also offer automatic fall detection.
Importance of Daily Skin Care
A daily skin care routine is important to protect skin from environmental hazards and combat fine lines, wrinkles, and dull, uneven skin tones. You need a routine that cleanses, moisturizes and protects your skin. Look for a gentle, non-drying cleanser, an exfoliant and broad-spectrum protection from sun damage. Choose cleansers that will remove dirt and bacteria while moisturizing the skin with emollients and humectants to draw water into the top layer of the skin. Finally, using a sunscreen every day even when it is cloudy protects against UVA and UVB rays and may prevent wrinkles and skin cancer.
Personal Growth Groups
Life can become overwhelming so what you usually do to take care of yourself may be overlooked to make room for all the other things on your calendar. Why not make Personal Growth part of your self-care? A recent participant of the Women’s Personal Growth Group was grateful for the opportunity to be in a group situation. She had amazing discussions, and at the end of the 12-week sessions, felt more confident and happier with herself. In the Men’s Personal Growth program, participants have found the open dialogue with other men helpful and encouraging in their journey of self-discovery. How are you growing?
