Make Your Retirement Home a Haven
Can the right home make you live healthier and longer? With average life expectancies increasing, the amount of time that seniors spend in retirement is also lengthened. Living in an older home can contribute to your health issues due to ventilation limitations and construction designs. Newer construction codes have achieved better air quality resulting in less stuffiness and mold potential. Choosing a modern air balance home, a single level home or even a lock and leave condo lifestyle might just be the self-care you need. It’s time to treat your home as an investment in your wellness. Let’s choose your best housing option for your retirement health and wellbeing.
Self-Care Tips for Caregivers
When caring for an older adult, carving out time for self-care can be difficult. Between worrying for a loved ones’ safety and trying to maintain a work/life balance, caregivers experience high levels of stress and feelings of isolation. This is especially true during COVID-19, so finding time for respite and self-care is more important than ever before. So, each day, try to do something you enjoy. Commit to a healthy lifestyle through diet, exercise, and a good sleep routine. Victoria Lifeline can also provide your loved one around the clock access to help, which will give any caregiver much needed peace of mind.
The Power of Play
What could you do this summer that would help you to thrive despite the stressful pandemic experiences we are living through? The answer is PLAY! Play sets apart those who are struggling and those who are doing well and thriving. Play significantly contributes to the quality of our emotional, psychological, physical, spiritual, and intellectual lives. If parents are worried about their child’s academic progress, they can be encouraged with the fact that true play creates and builds a brain that is better able to learn. Experts worldwide are advocating for a summer of play. We definitely all need more play!
Acupuncture for Menopause Symptoms
Menopause can cause a number of uncomfortable emotional and physical symptoms, including hot flashes, sleep disturbances, and mood changes. Some women may not want to or can’t use hormone replacement therapy, which is a common treatment for menopause symptoms. Recent studies in both Denmark and the United States suggest that acupuncture may help with symptoms of menopause. Women who received acupuncture sessions during the studies reported less severe and less frequent day and night sweats, general sweating, sleep problems, emotional and physical symptoms, and skin and hair problems compared to women who did not have acupuncture sessions during the studies.

Legionnaires’ disease
Legionnaires’ disease is common in summer and it spreads when water droplets containing Legionella bacteria accidentally reach your lungs through the respiratory tract, causing headache, fever up to 104 F or higher, shortness of breath, confusion, and excess coughing with mucous and blood. The bacteria reside in freshwater lakes, hot water tanks/tubs, fountains, water heaters, showerheads. Prevent Legionnaires’ disease – Avoid inhaling water particles during shower, do not inhale near moist soil while gardening, monitor and clean your water management/ plumbing system, keep your lungs healthy.

Always Sick? Check Your Stress Levels
Stress is so abundant in our everyday lives that there’s a good chance you don’t even realize just how stressed out you actually are. If you are willing to stop and listen, you can hear warning signs from your body to make a change and find calmness and peace. If you are constantly stressed out, your immune system isn’t going to be prepared to fight off viruses and bacteria, making you more prone to illness and disease. Thankfully, we have the power to take control of our stress levels, whether that means leaving a stressful situation or incorporating more mindfulness practices into our daily lives.
